Highlights from the PUZZLE’s second Hackathon

On the 2nd of June, 2023, Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) along with UBITECH organized the second Hackathon of the PUZZLE project. Undergraduate, master, PhD students and researchers of the institute participated in a very informative as well as challenging event.

Manos Athanatos, Technical Project Manager at ICS-FORTH made a welcome speech and then UBITECH took the lead in presenting the rationale behind the PUZZLE project as well as the holistic Security as a Service approach it offers for safeguarding cloud-based assets of SMEs&MEs, assuring vertical trust for all assets comprising the target business ecosystem. Following that an introduction to Kubernetes technology and Security Policies Enforcement was also made by the technical coordination team of the project along with a detailed demonstration of the PUZZLE platform and its artefacts.   

Then, the Hackathon launched and all the participants added their applications to the platform, created their own policies based on security policies templates, and applied them to their applications in order to protect them from simulated DoS attacks.

The context was extremely challenging whereas the time difference among the fastest three was in the order of seconds.

The quickest that accomplished the challenge set, awarded with a free-pass to the CyberHOT Summer School that will take place in Chania, Crete, Greece during September 2023. The second and the third, awarded an Intel NUC 11 Essential Kit NUC11ATKC4 (Celeron Quad Core-N5105), including 16GB of memory and 500GB SSD drive, and a Jetson Nano ARM NVIDIA 4GB Developer Kit (V3), respectively. Last but not least, all participants received a certification of participation.
