Key insights from the PUZZLE Hackathon in Athens

On the 30th of May, 2023 the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), under the context of PUZZLE H2020 project, organized, in strong collaboration with UBITECH the first PUZZLE’s Hackathon. The Hackathon was addressed to undergraduate and master students as well as PhD candidates, of the National Technical University of Athens, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), with basic knowledge of coding (in Python).

The event was kicked off by the Assistant Professor and senior researcher at the Computing Systems Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens, Ioannis Konstantinou, who made a welcome speech and a short introduction about the event to the participants. Then, the project coordinator on behalf of UBITECH presented the rationale behind the PUZZLE project as well as the holistic Security as a Service approach it offers for safeguarding cloud-based assets of SMEs&MEs, assuring vertical trust for all assets comprising the target business ecosystem.

An introduction to Kubernetes technology and Security Policies Enforcement was also made by the technical coordination team along with the demonstration of the PUZZLE platform and its artefacts.

Then the participants added their applications to the platform, created their own policies based on security policies templates and applied them to their applications in order to protect them from simulated DoS attacks.

The quickest three accomplished the aforementioned challenge, awarded with a Raspberry Pi 4 Elegant Kit of 8GB RAM, whereas all participants received a certification of participation.
