More than 100 visitors, many opportunities for networking, and 11 lecturers from Europe and the USA marked the PUZZLE International Cybersecurity Conference, which was held on June 21 at the Novi Sad Fair Congress Center Master (Novi Sad, Serbia).

The Conference brought together experts with multidisciplinary competencies and resources from the academia, industry and research communities focusing on solutions for SMEs&MEs from Greece, Serbia, France, Belgium, Croatia, and Germany. This gathering of professionals, researchers and enthusiasts in the field of cyber security, privacy, and data protection presented EU-funded, R&D projects, data processing and their analysis, solutions, and tools for SMEs&MEs. Due to the large number of foreign visitors who registered, the program was in English, and the visitors were also provided with simultaneous translation.
The PUZZLE conference focused on the most recent advances in cyber security, including demo sessions, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and specifically trends and experiences in the application of technology for the business sector, SMEs&MEs.



The Conference Program
PUZZLE International Cybersecurity Conference saw a great lineup of speakers, starting with the opening ceremony and presentation. Many of the conference talks dived into the need for cyber resilience strategies to protect information systems better. Also on the program were conferences and live demos put on by the various EU-funded projects and professionals present at #PUZZLEICC representatives of Solution Providers.
The Conference was jam-packed with insightful lectures, educational masterclasses, and engaging Q&A sessions, as well as a focus on SMEs&MEs and cybersecurity providers breaking into the business, as well as information sharing with R&D professionals.



The conference was opened by the lecture “Advanced intrusion detection and cyber risk assessment methods for mitigating attacks in distributed edge-to-cloud computing systems” by Sophia Karagiorgou. This was followed by a demo session of the PUZZLE project by Konstantinos Theodosiou.
Then, the attendees had the opportunity to learn more about the ENTRUST project and “How to secure the connected medical device design and operation?” presented by Thomas Krousarlis who is a Senior Cybersecurity Researcher. Sofiana Menesidou, Cybersecurity Research Associate gave an excellent insight into the topic of Compositional Security, Verification & Risk Management for Systems-Of-Systems-Enabled Supply Chains.
Nebojsa Stankic continued with a business story and experience from the point of view of a Cybersecurity provider “The pandemic is over, let’s go back!”. Xanthi S. Papageorgiou, Head of Unit – Robotics & Cognitive Systems, presented the latest achievements for Cybersecurity for a digital – robot society: New dangers and different perspectives with a very impressive and very high-level narrative, but also shared her research work, observations and views into the future.
Nikola Vasov was followed on the topic of Business Continuity – Business Resistance. Thanassis Giannetsos, Head of Security & Trusted Computing Group, UBITECH Ltd. presented “Enhanced Security, Privacy and Trust in Safety-Critical Infrastructures”.
Branislav Dobrosavljevic, IT consultant (Cybersecurity, Open data, Privacy and Digital services) talked about Cybersecurity for small and medium-sized businesses and organizations.
Marinos Tsantekidis, Project Manager and Software Engineer and Manos Karampinakis, Software Engineer presented the EU-funded SENTINEL project with an interesting demo session and Q&A discussion.
The PUZZLE International Cybersecurity Conference was closed by Alex Paunic, CEO and Co-Founder of PreCog Security, Inc. Florida based cybersecurity risk management company that participated from Florida with a very informative lecture entitled: “Cybersecurity and Revenue: Closing US Fortune 500 Client and How Your Cybersecurity Practice Can Boost Your Revenue”.
